As someone who has wondered about this before, I find this fascinating.

This was from yesterday! Yes, it’s official, I have been tumbling for three years now. If you can call it that even, considering how sporadic my updates are, lately and not so lately.

Thanks TB!

Something interesting has happened.

For the longest time, probably since I was working as a volunteer attorney and then later, when I was hired full time, I have avoided using the computer when I get home from work. I look at a computer screen all day, it’s the last thing I want to do when I get home in the evening.

Until the past couple of weeks. I’ve started coming home, thought about working out, changed into pjs, watched TV, and pulled out the trusty laptop with the loud, malfunctioning fan that needs to be fixed. I catch up on google reader, tumblr, and other interweb things. And wedding planning. Yeesh.

And I actually think it’s improving my mood. I’m not sure why that would be, but I think I am overall in a better mood recently because of the extra time I spend catching up on the stuff I WANT to read and play with, the stuff that’s just for me, and not about work or loans or anything else.

Just a theory, but I like it.

Maybe that means someday I’ll actually answer the messages sitting in my inbox ;-)

I finally got around to checking my email and social media and such and I found a $10 gift ecard from my tumblr buddy! Thanks TB! This will be enjoyed very quickly :-)

I have some delayed posts and ask box questions to attend to, I know. Working on it! In the meantime, here’s a picture of a squirrel playing a piano.

On the subject of Thanksgiving, I also want to add that I am not a fan of the Black Friday sales starting at midnight on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and especially not the sales happening ON THANKSGIVING DAY. Seriously, this is commercialism at its worst, and it’s infuriating.

Opening the doors at midnight means that people will be lining up hours in advance, cutting into what I’ve always considered to be family time, or just time spent celebrating the holiday, recovering from the meal, watching Thanksgiving-y movies, or any other way people choose to recognize it.* Cutting into that time for the sake of a good bargain and the resulting high profits is beyond ridiculous.

Also, starting the sales earlier requires more employees to be present, thereby cutting into THEIR holidays. I remember when all the stores were closed on Thanksgiving day, and only a handful of restaurants were open. Grocery stores might be open til early afternoon, but then they closed too. To give the employees a chance to observe the holiday. Clearly, that’s not a priority anymore for these big box businesses.

We encourage people to get jobs, to work, which we all know is difficult to do these days. Jobs are hard to find, and people don’t want to risk losing those jobs by refusing to work, or they’ll work to get the holiday pay, if any is offered.

The whole thing bothers me on a level I haven’t experienced in a while. And now you know that.

*Yes, I’m aware that not everyone is into Thanksgiving like I am, and for some people, the holidays aren’t family together time, but for the sake of this post, and my own personal experience, that’s how I’m writing it.
