Letter Of Note of the Day: An internal memo from 1987 forwarded to the Head of Network TV at Paramount re: Star Trek: TNG casting provides a rare glimpse at “what could have been.”
Things that make you go hmm: Wesley Snipes as Geordi.
This. Is. AWESOME.
Interesting note: After apparently auditioning for Geordi, Tim Russ went on to make guest appearances on both TNG and DS9, played a background character in Star Trek Generations, and then the vulcan Tuvok in Star Trek Voyager. He is, other than Jonathan Frakes, the only actor to appear on-screen with 4 of the 5 Star Trek Captains.
(He also appeared in Spaceballs, wherein he did not find shit.)
Amazing. I can’t even imagine how it could have been. Wesley Snipes as Geordi?? Rosalind Chao went on to feature pretty prominently in the TNG series as well.
