NaBloPoMo Day 4: When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?
I generally use a computer, and I prefer that.
Longhand is great, and I used it for my diaries when I was younger, and I love that I can look back on those and feel how personal and important that writing was.
I’ve done the majority of my writing on a computer from about age 8, or, when I was even younger, on my dad’s old typewriter. That thing was the coolest when I was 6. I think I can express my thoughts faster when I’m typing, and that helps with the flow of my thoughts, stream of consciousness type stuff. [Side note, I don’t type properly. I use my first two fingers primarily, my thumbs, and my left pinkie. I type fast though, due to years of instant messenger use, and last day procrastination on 10+ page papers. I probably would be even more efficient if I used the good old home row.]
I do think the two methods are unique from one another, and invoke different feelings and thought processes. Each has its place and use.
