npr story about ku info
i heard this story on my way home from work. it made my day.
“ku info was actually an early form of google.” -vice president of engineering for google
Oh man. I can remember when you could call KU Info for pizza delivery numbers, or even random questions like how many trees are on campus, or how many kangaroos are in Australia. Really. I knew a lot of the staff of KU info from 2001-2003, they knew everything. The office was covered in newspaper clippings and filled with crates full of files. But most of the information was in their heads. It was awesome.
The format of KU info changed about halfway through my time at KU, and became more of a campus resource only (bo-ring), but the legacy lives on, apparently.
