Notes &
25 (+1) things you always wanted to know about me but were afraid to ask
I put this list on facebook (the ‘book), so I figured I’d put it here too. Enjoy!
1. I am extremely easily amused, and will laugh at just about anything that was meant to be funny. Anyone who’s ever spent any significant amount of time with me can attest to this.
2. The summer after my sophomore year, I challenged myself to give up cookies for the whole summer. I’d like to think I succeeded, and have yet to crave them in the same way I did before that summer.
3. I am often optimistic to a fault.
4. My last name has been mispronounced in so many ways that I’m used to just about anything. For those who are interested, the right way to pronounce it is like the word “suffer” but with a Z*. (as for my first name, “sah-rah” or “sair-ah” are both right to me)
5. I gave up drinking pop and eating fast food when I was about 15, and for the most part, never looked back.
6. When I was little, I thought I would grow up to be an artist or a teacher.
7. I got my first pet (a kitty!) when I turned 14. We never had them before then because no one knew how my older brother, who has autism, would react. Of course, everything turned out ok.
8. Every once in a while, I still like to read books I enjoyed in middle school and high school.
9. I take pictures at just about every event I attend, and I always have my camera with me, just in case.
10. Last year, I managed to have my phone stolen, the replacement dunked in a toilet and replaced again, and my camera was stolen, and I lost my driver’s license, all at parties. Not my year for important stuff.
11. I make up words and phrases all the time.
12. Watching a lot of Unsolved Mysteries as a child may have permanently traumatized me, and to this day I am freaked out by aliens and Robert Stack’s voice (please call 1-800-876-5353….I didn’t look it up, but I’m 100% sure that was the number).
13. Horror movies that are more gory than scary don’t do anything for me, and most scary movies don’t scare me.
14. I keep a blog (or two), but rarely post about anything too personal or important. I’m not sure why that is.
15. Open windows, or windows that are uncovered at night make me uncomfortable.
16. I’ve always been a mediawhore, as evidenced by numerous photos and quotes in the Kansan while at KU, as well as writing a column in that same paper for several years. I was also often in the Wichita Eagle, and I did a local TV news spot last May for the rebuilding of my elementary school.
17. Waking up to the sound of an alarm really bugs me, so I have had my clock/radio set to wake me up to NPR since high school (my parents used to wake me up in the mornings through middle school).
18. I didn’t taste a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut until senior year of high school, while visiting Kansas City.
19. Having an older brother with autism has taught me more about people and society than any other experience.
20. I’ve been doing yoga since senior year of high school, but not always consistently.
21. Cleaning house is cathartic for me, although I usually let things pile up for a while before actually getting to it …my natural state is “organized chaos.”
22. I have never broken a bone, although I’ve had three surgeries: my wisdom teeth, lens implants in my eyes, and surface laser treatment for astigmatism.
23. Strange things have sentimental value to me, like old shampoo bottles or nail polish from 10 years ago…I have a hard time throwing things away because of this, but it’s getting better lately.
24. I have a freakishly good memory.
25. Every time I meet someone, it is a potentially awesome friendship waiting to happen. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t, but if it does, everybody wins!
26. (*In honor of the letter Z, the 26th letter of the alphabet) I have an automatic editor in my brain. I even took the time to make sure that “I” was only at the beginning of every other item on this list, because I’m cool like that.
